August 21st, 2007

Here are photos from Gentrac Building Corporation’s August 17, 2007 unveiling of Tillsonburg’s first SOLAR powered ENERGY STAR qualified home. The photo gentrac-ribbon-cutting-s.jpg shows the ribbon cutting ceremony, where over 50 people attended. From left to right are:

  1. John Gilvesy, President of Gentrac Building Corporation
  2. Mark Renaud, Deputy Mayor and Tillsonburg Hydro Chairman Board of Directors Member
  3. Dave MacKenzie, MP (Oxford)
  4. Ernie Hardeman, MPP (Oxford
  5. Stephen Molnar, Mayor
  6. Dave Birch, the R.E. Source Store (behind Mr. Evans)
  7. Chris Evans, Carmanah Technologies

Gentrac Basement shows a series of 4 solar PV (photovoltaic) modules on the roof. This 784 watt array is composed of three 195 watt modules and one 200 watt module, from the “Sanyo HIT series.” These panels have no moving parts and generate no emissions or noise. The panels are small and light, with each panel weighing less than 31 pounds and measuring less than 1.5 metres lengthwise.
Gentrac Basement s.jpg shows a Carmanah 3.5kW back-up power system installed in the basement. The system is “grid-tied” for the purpose of net metering with Tillsonburg Hydro, and has back-up power capacity for up to three days on selected circuits.

A media release is also attached.
