New paths toward zero-carbon biofuel RSS

December 12th, 2007

(Bali, Indonesia) Today at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia, Primafuel, bioenergy-specialist situated in Signal Hill (California, USA) presents a new and innovative approach for the production of zero-carbon fuels. Primafuel develops technology for the biofuel industry, reducing the carbon output along every step of the fuel supply-chain. In November Primafuel was named a 2008 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The WEF awards companies which have developed ground-breaking technologies in the categories Energy, Biotechnology, Health Care and IT.

The two week UN Climate Change Conference, hosted by the Government of Indonesia, brings together UN representatives from more than 180 countries, along with representatives of hightech-companies and NGOs, legal advisers and industry experts. The conference includes meetings of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the parent treaty of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. A key goal of the conference is defining an international cooperation framework that will last past 2012, when the Kyoto Protocol is set to expire.

Primafuel presents its innovative approach new technology in Bali in a panel discussing California’s Low Carbon Standard. “We have been hard at work from our home base in California developing better ways to make biofuels”, says Rahul Iyer, Primafuel Executive Vice President. “This is the first of many opportunities for us to share our ground-breaking biofuels thinking with world leaders working at the epicenter our global energy crisis. This is an opportunity to share our thinking with the world’s top energy policymakers and businesspeople”, says Iyer.

Primafuel reacts to the growing number of critical voices of conventional technology used for the production of biofuels by reducing the carbon output along every step of the fuel supply-chain and squeezing more energy out of each unit of feedstock using ‘closed loop’ technologies that recycle otherwise wasted materials or waste streams. Experts are constantly calling attention to the risk of the reduction of cultivable land and rising prices for food. Therefore, Primafuel is focusing on economically, environmentally and socially sustainable solutions for the production of zero-carbon fuels. The company will focus on several areas of innovation, including The company’s most significant innovations are new methods for waste-stream recycling, the development of a smart infrastructure that monitors carbon output along the fuel supply-chain, the use of next-generation feedstock like algae, as well as scalable and modular refineries.

Primafuel will build refineries that are tailored to the specific local energy needs and feedstock supplies. Additionally, unlike most current facilities, Primafuels refineries can process multiple feedstock. This way the biofuel providers can adapt to changing supplies and prices of feedstock and don’t depend on the availability of any one feedstock.

About Primafuel

California-based Primafuel develops better biofuels and technologies for biofuel production improving the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of low-carbon fuels. Primafuel brings together an international team of award-winning biofuels experts in the pursuit of zero-carbon biofuels. Primafuel owns patent-pending technologies that improve the biofuels production process along every step of the fuel supply-chain. Such innovations include waste-stream recycling, scalable and modular refineries, carbon-monitoring infrastructure and the use of next-generation feedstock, such as algae.

In 2007 Primafuel was awarded the state of California’s largest biofuels production grant towards construction of a $90 million biofuel production facility at the Port of Sacramento. Primafuel is a 2008 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. Primafuel is a privately-held corporation with labs in California and Europe and business operations in New York and Asia.
