How Green is Your Web Host?
The recent explosion in green websites has prompted us to post this survey so we can get an idea of just how many sites are actually green. A few months ago we switched to Pair Networks because of their carbon-nuetral status. While they have always been known for their quality and support services, the decision last year to reduce their carbon footprint to zero has caused a growth in business. Their clients now include several top green websites like TreeHugger.com.
What makes a website green?
While there are many smaller hosts that are directly powered by alternative sources like solar and wind power, these companies often struggle to provide a consistent and reliable service. Pair solves this problem by using energy efficient technologies and promoting recycling and other green programs throughout their buildings. To offset their carbon footprint they purchase a company-wide TerraPass so that more money is invested in projects that reduce harmful carbon dioxide emissions around the world.
