Let face it!

If hybrids, electric or hydrogen cars cost so much the list of clients will be very short. What we need is CHEAP and affordable clean car. This will happen only when Chinese and Indians enter the global market with big number of cheap and affordable units. I already read about the full electric Chinese sedan car for less than $20.000 and there is another car from Croatia (steel on the drawing board) which will sell for less than 15.000 euro.

You must remember Chris that indeed the rich people who do buy such a car ARE being green as BMW must abide by the Kyoto protocol and the new EU Co2 legislation... If they don't and this isn't a green car you can say bye bye to the name BMW as they will most probably have spent a lot of their resources on this and get acquired by another group. Just wish I was one of the rich ones :-)

Of course, the real problem with electric motors isn't getting enough acceleration; it's getting little enough acceleration. Pure electric will go 0 to 60 fast enough to crack a few ribs.

Yes Chris, Diesel powered. Diesel is way better than conventional petrol engines in terms of efficiency. They also provide good torque at low rpm's. Run this thing on biodiesel and I'd say it's pretty sustainable. Of course it will be expensive. It's a BMW and it's new technology and lightweight materials. But I'm glad to see someone is doing is right. Next step is a gas turbine hybrid.

Internal combustion? - diesel powered? - that's what we call exciting and innovative?. - sustainable? - I can't really see that the word "sustainable" really applies here. More of a marketing ploy to let rich people pretend to be green with their new toy. I have to admit it looks pretty sexy. 100K = money well wasted.
